Bible Verses & Devotionals / Resting in Faith~ Hannah 1 Samuel 1
« on: February 10, 2017, 07:42:10 PM »
Today in my time with God, I read about Hannah's story in 1 Samuel. It's a story I know fairly well, but there was a verse that just jumped out at me this tim. Hannah had been distressed about her barrenness and went to God. Just pouring out her heart and her desires, and asked for a son. After talking with Eli, verse 18 happens: "And she said, "Let your servant find favor in your eyes." Then the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad."
This verse intrigued and convicted me about faith. Hannah trusted God. She wanted a child and so she poured her heart out to God and then she rested in faith. She knew her God. So often when I do take my concerns, my heart desires, and my burdens to God's throne, I take them back with me later because of faithlessness. I forget about who God is and I forget that He has a plan for me. I become consumed with my surrounding circumstances, my failures, and my hurts, and I forget to see the One who is in control of it all. I forget that He is right there protecting me, strengthening me.
How different would my life look if I would trust God and know that He does have a plan? That my failures have not caused me to be a hopeless case? How different would my joy and my peace look if I found rest as I put my faith in God? Confident in who He is, confident in what He does, and confident that I can come to Him.

Music Hall / Love Ran Red ~ Chris Tomlin

I love this song. It really focuses in on Christ's sacrifice on the cross. My school is having a Bible Conference on the sufficiency of Christ. Today, one speaker talked about Christ's sufficiency to be our PERFECT priest. We need Him, and it can only be Him, to come to the Father. And He is that perfect Priest. And that will never change. That is why we can depend on His blood to wash away all of our sins, for eternity.

This is a new modern hymn, that is really good and true. It's not on YouTube and I wasn't sure how to post it, so, if I do, i will update it...

But, please listen to this song, it is so good. :)

This is the link to information about the 2016 Bible Conference at Bob Jones University. The theme is "The Sufficiency of Christ". Through the week several godly men will be delivering convicting and encouraging messages, focused on Christ's sufficincy. I encourage you guys to check it out next week. I will try to post the links on this thread so that you can easily get to the webcast, and they will be saved if you need/want to watch them at a later time. :) If you guys have any questions about the conference, Bob Jones University, the validity of the university, or anything else, feel free to private message me, comment, or email me: southersharkie95@gmail.com

Hope you guys can watch a few of the sermons and enjoy them!  :)

Love this song. A Christian is not defined by their mistakes, but by the grace and forgiveness of God! :)

Music Hall / I Run to Christ
« on: November 19, 2015, 09:13:17 PM »
It blows my mind to realize how slow I am to go to God in times of fear, trial, or hurt. I tend to want to follow my emotions, get angry or frustrated, get discouraged, or act on sin instead of going to my Savior for comfort, peace and help. I dismiss Him so quickly, like He wouldn't understand, but He does. He cares. When I'm at the point of feeling even more horrible, I'm often reminded of who God is. I finally spend time with Him, reflecting on His never-changing truth. And I find a source of peace and joy that I couldn't know without Him. I find me kicking myself for taking so long to go to Him. He is so gracious and patient with me, as a slow learner. I hate to think of who I would be without God. He is my everything. I really like this song, I Run To Christ. I pray that I will learn to run to Christ first, to find refuge in Him in the trials, and the good times.

General Discussion / Veteran's Day
« on: November 11, 2015, 01:26:13 PM »
Veterans Day. This day is a federal holiday. Many don't have to go to work today. Some may feel inconvenienced as major banks and the post office and other places are closed in honor of our veterans.

But Veterans Day is so much more than a break from work. It remembers the work, sacrifices, and hardships that many men and women have sacrificed for our country. They went off to war willing to die, if it happened. They left their families, their lives, their safety, their mental sanity, and exchanged it for war. Families were left to live life without them for a time, or for the rest of their lives. Our veterans and current military have sacrificed so much for our countries.

Today, and every day, as we remember these people, lets show them our thanks. These people often go through so many hard things during and upon returning from war. Whether mental or physical, life is never the same. They never stop fighting the war. They have hardships, and fears, that can often destroy them. So, show these people respect, thank them, and pray for them. They need our prayers.

Happy Veteran's Day

Let's not forget all that our veterans, and their families, have gone through.

Testimonies / A Word on Your Testimony
« on: November 10, 2015, 08:03:30 PM »
Our lives are an interesting weaving of a story. A story that continues everyday, without any knowledge on our parts, of how life will happen. Our testimony tells our stories. Each person has several types of testimonies. Our salvation testimony, our daily life testimony, and our personal experience testimony. There are other types of testimony that could branch out but these three are primary. Each are integral, as they intersect to show Christ, or a lack of Christ.

Our salvation testimony: Our salvation testimony is often the first that one thinks of, when they are asked to share their testimony. But our salvation testimony is usually our briefest testimony. It is a very important testimony, and one that every Christian should know, and be prepared to share. This testimony is best shared showing 3 things: life before Christ (Romans 3:23), when Christ came into our lives (Romans 10: 9-10, John 3:16), and our life after Christ.(2 Corinthians 5:17) In your testimony you should really find or mention verses that speak to you and your salvation experience. Acts 22: 1-16 is a great passage where Paul gives his conversion, or his salvation testimony. The chapter continues to dwell of different aspects of his testimony afterwards, as well. This testimony is a wonderful telling of our lives and a strong message of God's redemptive salvation.

Next we have our daily life testimony. This comes in several ways. First, a testimony in our actions, and second, a testimony of life experiences, changes, trials, and celebrations. While this includes our lives before salvation, it really focuses on our life after salvation. Our testimony of our actions give testimony to Christ. There is a secular song where the singer gives a positive and negative event, where his young son proudly tells his daddy that he has been watching him. This is our position as Christians. We, like parents, are being watched. The world is interested in these Christians. What we do affects what we say. How we live makes us hypocrites, or aliens of this world (Christians). This testimony must be safely guarded, and the testimony of God's forgiveness must be heavily relied on as we fail, because sadly, we will fail. We must be sure that our actions testify the grace and love of Christ.
There is also our testimony of life experiences. We could probably also call this a testimony of God's work, as it often has to do with God's plan for our life. This is things like a call to missions, ministry etc., a life changing event, or a falling from the Christian life and that restoration, as well as small God things, like answered prayer. These are often encouragements and rebukes to other Christians as they see faith lived out, or as they see fear, rebellion or other things lived out. But God's love, his faithfulness, and his never ending forgiveness is shown to the world through these life experiences.

Finally, we have personal experience testimonies. These differ in that a personal experience can be used to relate or teach a specific lesson, or help a struggling friend, Christian or non-Christian, by showing them that you at least understand a little. These common ground stories shouldn't be used as comparison stories, saying my trial is bigger than yours, but they can be used effectively in counseling and helping, as well as in evangelism. Our stories are unique, but often God will put us through things so that we can relate with others.

So, don't be afraid to tell your testimony. There are many who would love to hear it and it could affect them in a very positive way. Testimonies are great stories that should always point back to the wonderful attributes of God.

If you would like to contribute verses pertaining to testimonies, tell your own story about an experience with testimonies, or further comment, please reply! I would love to see y'all's insight! :)

While this song has always been one of my favorites, I really can relate to this right now. The beautiful thing is that we really can lay it down and that we can "cast all our cares upon Him (God) for he cares for us." [1 Peter 5:7]
